L’ansia è uno stato psichico caratterizzato da una sensazione di intensa preoccupazione o paura e attivata da circostanze considerate pericolose o potenzialmente minacciose.
Qual è l’origine e quali soni le cause dell’ansia?
L’ansia è determinata dal difficile momento che stai vivendo: la malattia, il trattamento, la paura della prognosi e il dolore.
Trovarsi in uno stato ansioso è una condizione negativa e patologica?
No. L’ansia è un’emozione comune a tutti gli esseri umani.
E’ un’emozione naturale di risposta allo stress e ha una funzione importante in relazione alla sopravvivenza. È pertanto una modalità di risposta che utilizziamo per rispondere e prepararci a gestire lo stress.
Facciamo un esempio: quando dobbiamo sottoporci ad un esame diagnostico diventiamo più attenti agli stimoli circostanti ed entriamo in uno stato di “allerta” che ci prepara ad essere più reattivi al fine di rispondere meglio e superare l’ostacolo.
In questo caso, l’ansia ci preparerebbe ad affrontare in modo più funzionale un potenziale “pericolo”.
Quando uno stato ansioso diventa una condizione negativa e patologica?
L’ansia diventa disfunzionale quando:
- l’emozione provata di fronte allo stimolo che provoca ansia diventa intollerabile
- la sua durata persistente limita o blocca la crescita personale
- la risposta ansiosa è eccessiva rispetto allo stimolo scatenante.
In tutti i casi nei quali ostacola, blocca e interferisce con l’adattamento alle attività della vita quotidiana.
Quali sono i sintomi dell’ansia?
L’ansia si manifesta attraverso specifici sintomi, raggruppabili in stati:
- fisiologici: tachicardia, affanno, aritmie, nausea, diarrea, vertigini, tensioni muscolari, nodo alla gola, aumento della respirazione, sudorazione, emicrania, dispnea, sensazione di soffocamento, dolore o fastidio al petto, tosse, tremori, parestesie (sensazioni di torpore o di formicolio) e affaticamento;
- psicologici e cognitivi: disturbi del sonno, difficoltà di concentrazione, perdita di memoria, confusione e incapacità a rilassarsi;
- comportamentali: comportamenti non-adattivi diretti alla fuga o all’evitare la fonte potenziale dell’ansia;
- emotivi: agitazione, tensione emotiva, vergogna, nervosismo, irritabilità, paura di non riuscire a farcela, di morire, di perdere il controllo, di “impazzire”, senso di terrore o panico.
